In British Columbia, local governments lead the initial response to emergencies and disasters in their communities. As required by law, they have prepared emergency plans and maintain an emergency program.
Emergency programs are usually administered and managed by an Emergency Program Coordinator or EPC.
Under the direction of the EPC volunteer programs may be created which include Emergency Social Services and Emergency Radio Communications. The EPC will normally appoint and Emergency Radio Coordinator or ERC to manage radio communication and may also appoint one of more Deputy ERC’s.
